This is a full scheduled 7-day itinerary for Machame route Kilimanjaro climbing (trekking) tour. It provides a true depiction of the entire trek

Day

1

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

It takes approximately 30 minutes drive from Moshi town to Machame Gate. Here you will complete park registrations and get connected first day climb of the 6 days Machame route on mount Kilimanjaro. This route will take you up to Machame camp, while passing through the vegetation zone of dense rainforest.

On the first day of the itinerary, climbers begin with the drive from Moshi to Machame Gate (5,381ft) which takes approximately 45 minutes.

The Machame Gate is starting point of the climb which is located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro.This entrance point lies high above the Machame Village in the south and it takes 5-7 hours of steep ascent from Machame Gate (5,381ft) to Machame Camp (9,301ft) with only 8-9 hours of sleep.

Shira Cave Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

This day-3 is a tough one as it involve climbing from Shira Cave Camp(12,598ft) up to an altitude of (15,223ft) at Lava Tower. Then descend to Barranco Camp (12,959ft) for overight. This trek takes approximately 5-8 hours to complete

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Distance : 5km
  • Trekking Time : 4-5 hours
  • Habitat : Alpine Desert

The today’s trek, climbers ascend from Baranco Camp (12,959ft)to Karanga Camp (13,238ft).

In order to get to the Karanga Camp, climbers have to cross over the Baranco wall and the Karanga Valley ridges. This trek is a bit challenging especially at "Kiss Stone Point" on the Barranco Wall however, all the climbers usually conqer this section by the help of our proffessional guides.

The entire trek of this day take up approximately 4-5 hours to complete. Thereafter, climbers spend the rest of the day and overnight at Karanga Camp.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Distance : 4km

The fifth day of the trek involve climbing from Karanga Camp (13,238ft) to the mount Kilimanjaro Base Camp, Barafu Camp at (15,354ft

To get to Barafu Camp, climbers do cross over the trail which connects with the Mweka route. The todays climb is moderate as it takes 3-4 hours to complete.

Climbes spend the rest of the day at Barafu camp. Here, they get an early dinner and prepare for the summit attempt which starts in the mid-night at 12:00pm.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

  • Distance : 5km ascend to Uhuru peak plus 12km descent up to Mweka camp
  • Trekking Time : 6-8 hours ascent plus 4-6 hours descent
  • Habitat : Rain Forest Zone

On the sixth day, climbers walk steadly from Barafu camp (15,354ft) to the summit point of mount Kilimanjaro ( 5,895m or 19,341ft) known as Uhuru Peak. Then descend back to Barafu Camp.

The trek starts around 12:00pm. From that, climbers take the northwest direction and ascend through a heavy scree towards the crater rim at Stella point.

At stella point, climbers take about 15 minutes break before headoff to Uhuru peak. Getting to Uhuru peak, means you are at the highest point over the whole African continent where you will be rewarded with the beatiful sunrise before descending to Barafu camp.

Thereafter, climbers rest for 2 hours at Barafu camp where they take lunch and descend to Mweka Camp (10,104ft) for the last dinner and last overnight in the Mountain.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

  • Trekking Time : 3-4 hours
  • Habitat : Rain Forest Zone
  • Meals : Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included

Upon arrival at Mweka gate, climbers are rewarded with Kilimanjaro summit certificates before being driven back to Moshi for a celebratory dinner and overnight stay.

Balance Payment

  • 50% of the total tour price will be charged as cancellation fees.

  • Trek can be postponed to any new date without any extra cost at any point in time.

  • The 5% surcharge paid for either or both advance and balance payments is non-refundable in case of cancellation of the trek.
