3 days Mount Meru Trekking tour
TRIP OVERVIEW
Mount Meru which is located in Arusha National Park (offering some of the most spectacular scenery and wildlife diversity when passing to the 3 Days Mount Meru Hiking journey). Mount Meru is a challenging hike due to its steepness. Hikers are accompanied by an armed ranger due to the abundance of wildlife on the lower slopes especially from Arusha National Park. Mount Meru is a great hiking option for those who want to take on a Hiking challenge in Tanzania Mountains and get the sense of being out in the wild. Mount Meru hiking may be your option if you are unable to hike Mountain Kilimanjaro due to its height and the level of hiking as each mountain in Tanzania has its own hiking challenges.
TRIP ITINERARY
Day
1
Momella gate to Miriakamba Hut
Approx. time taken : 5 hours
You will depart your hotel at 08:00 am in Arusha/Moshi driving about an hour or half an hour towards the Momella Gate which is the starting point of the first day Mount Meru hiking. After the registration, you will start your hiking accompanied by an armed ranger helping you to escape wild animals in Arusha National Park and overall way to the Mount Meru. Along the route you will catch spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Momella Lakes. You will encounter animals such as cape buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs and bushbucks and many others. Your hike will end up at Miriakamba Hut on the first day where you will be spending the night.

2
Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
Approx. time taken : 4 hours
The second day’s hike bring you through the steep path along the ridge of the saddle. Amazing view of the Mount Meru Crater, the ash cone and little Meru Peak can be seen along the way. While hiking through the forest keep your eyes peeled for wildlife and the amazing wild flowers. Common animals include buffaloes, the black and white Colobus Monkey. Your hike will end up at Saddle Hut where you will be spending the night. After resting at the camp, you will set off on an hour acclimatization hike to Little Meru, then head back down to Saddle Hut.

Saddle Hut to Summit to Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate
Approx. time taken : 13-14 hours.
We start early in the morning at least at around 7:30 am to hike steeply to Rhino Point to Cobra Point. We reach the Mount Meru summit (4566 m) on time for sunrise. There is a possibility to see the Mount Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. The final part of the hike is along a spectacular narrow ridge line between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater. We take a short rest and brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to the Miriakamba Hut and lastly to Momella Gate. The returning transfer to Arusha/Moshi will be waiting at Momella Gate and will bring you back to your accommodation.
