5 Days Umbwe Route Kilimanjaro Climbing is the most challenging adventure on hiking Kilimanjaro Mountain but it is suitable for those hikers experienced with hiking hard Mountains. Due to the demanding stages, we recommend this route only for experienced alpinists. The Umbwe route also offering little time for acclimatization in some points of adventures.

TRIP ITINERARY

Elevation: 1200m to 1700m to 2850m,
Distance: 11 km,
Hiking time: 6 hours,
Habitat: Montana forest.

During morning in the first day of Kilimanjaro hiking your driver will pick you up from your accommodation and drive you to the Umbwe Gate point. You will do registering yourself and start your journey begining through dense rainforest with huge fig trees. You will see different kinds of animals, such as the Colobus monkeys. While ascending, on a clear day you can admire the Kibo peak in the distance. The ascent ends after 6 hours at Umbwe Cave Camp. If you still have energy left, you can visit the nearby cave. Dinner followed by an overnight stay and prepare yourself for the next day start journey.

After breakfast and continue a hiking process, in a short time you will reach the tree line and the landscape which gradually change from rainforest to moss-covered trees and heathland. You will follow a challenging ridge which will finally lead you into the Barranco Valley near the Barranco Camp which is situated at an altitude of almost 4000 meters in the shadow of the Great Barranco Wall. At Barranco camp the three routes Lemosho, Shira, Machame are combined with that of Umbwe ascent of hiking. Dinner and the overnight stay at the Barranco Camp.

Hiking time: 8 hours

After your breakfast start the ascent from Barranco Camp near the Great Barranco Wall, then to Karanga Valley Camp. This point of Kilimanjaro hiking is challenging but offers great views of the southern glaciers of Kibo. From Karanga Valley Camp we continue on a ridge to Barafu Camp. Dinner followed by an overnight stay.

Distance: 15km,
Hiking time: 10 – 12 hours,
Habitat: Desert and ice

Night ascent with flashlight from Barafu Camp through scree and snow to the Uhuru Peak summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. After some hours you will reach Stella Point at the Kilimanjaro crater rim. With good visibility you will get to experience a magnificent sunrise here, after an hour reach the summit of Uhuru Peak. Now you stand on the roof of Africa and enjoy the best viewpoint on the Africa. Then you will start to descend to Barafu Camp, rest there for a while and continue your descent to Mweka Camp

Descending time: 4 hours,
Habitat: Montana forest

After breakfast, today is your last day on the Mountain so you will descend down to Mweka park gate walking across Montana forest this descent will take 4 hours. Then here at the gate you will do sign out and get ready to board the vehicle ready for the transfer back to Moshi/Arusha.

Deposit Payment

Deposit is 20% of the total booking amount.

Once you make the advance payment you will receive a booking confirmation.

Balance Payment

Balance can be paid via bank transfer, online card payment, or with cash.
Bank payment can be done 15 days prior to the tour date (recommended 30 days prior).
Card Payment can be done 1 day prior to the tour date (recommended 7 days prior).
A 5% fee is applicable on all card payments (payment gateway charge), this is non-refundable.
Cash can be paid on arrival (USD printed in or after the year 2009).

No cancellation fees.

0 to 7 days before departure

50% of the total tour price will be charged as cancellation fees.
Trek can be postponed to any new date without any extra cost at any point in time.
The 5% surcharge paid for either or both advance and balance payments is non-refundable in case of cancellation of the trek.
