5-Day Sharing Safari in Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro

Objective: Discover epic wildlife, shared costs, and unforgettable memories on a budget-friendly group safari through Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater.

Overview

Have you dreamed of seeing the Great Migration or standing on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater, but worried that a private safari is too expensive? This 5-day Tanzania sharing safari is designed to give you access to the same world‑class parks at a price that works for solo travelers, couples on a budget, and small groups of friends.

By sharing a 4x4 safari vehicle and a professional guide with a small group, you reduce costs while still enjoying scheduled game drives in Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater. You experience the same landscapes, wildlife, and routes that private safaris use, but with a more accessible price per person.

You can choose between public campsites for a more adventurous bush feel or budget lodges for extra comfort at the end of the day. In both cases, you travel with like‑minded travelers, creating a social atmosphere that feels safe and friendly as you move between parks.

The guides are a key part of the value of this trip. They are not only responsible for driving and spotting animals, but also for explaining animal behavior, park ecology, and local culture so that each game drive feels informative, not just a transfer.

From your first pickup in Arusha to your final drop‑off, the logistics are handled for you: park fees, transport between parks, accommodation on safari, and most meals are organized in advance. This allows you to focus on what you came for: sunrise over the Serengeti plains, the chance to see the Big Five, and the experience of being out in the African bush with a small group.

Detailed 5-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha/Moshi to Tarangire National Park

Your adventure begins with a morning pickup from your accommodation in Arusha or Moshi. After a quick briefing and meeting your fellow travelers, we head to Tarangire National Park. Known for its massive baobab trees and the largest elephant population in northern Tanzania, the park offers a dramatic introduction to the wild. You will spend the afternoon navigating the Tarangire River banks, where wildlife gathers in high concentrations.

  • Daily Highlights: Spotting "Tarangire’s red-dusted elephants," seeing ancient Baobabs, and your first African savanna sunset.

  • Approximate transfer time: 2–3 hours by road.

  • Accommodation: Budget Lodge or Public Campsite in or near Mto wa Mbu / Karatu.

  • Meal plan: Lunch & Dinner (LD).

Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast, we journey toward the world-famous Serengeti National Park. The drive takes you through the lush Ngorongoro Highlands before the trees give way to the "Endless Plains." We enter the Serengeti via the Naabi Hill Gate, beginning our game drive immediately as we head toward the central Seronera area, the heart of the park's big cat action.

  • Daily Highlights: Scenic transit through the Ngorongoro Highlands and entering the iconic Serengeti plains.

  • Approximate transfer time: 5–6 hours (including game viewing en route).

  • Accommodation: Central Serengeti Public Campsite or Budget Tented Camp (e.g., Seronera area).

  • Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner (BLD).

Day 3: Full Day in Serengeti National Park

This is the day you have been waiting for. We spend a full day exploring the vast Serengeti ecosystem. Depending on the time of year, your guide will track the Great Migration herds. You will have the chance to witness lions on the hunt, cheetahs scanning the horizon from termite mounds, and hippos lounging in the river pools. The sheer scale of the wildlife here is something you have to see to believe.

  • Daily Highlights: Intensive big cat tracking and witnessing the vast migration herds (seasonal).

  • Approximate transfer time: N/A (Full-day game drives within central Serengeti).

  • Accommodation: Central Serengeti Public Campsite or Budget Tented Camp.

  • Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner (BLD).

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area – The Crater Rim

We enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti, catching the predators while the air is still cool. After a picnic lunch, we begin our slow drive back toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We will reach the crater rim in the late afternoon, where the temperature drops and the views become breathtaking. We settle in for the night, perched high above the world’s most famous caldera.

  • Daily Highlights: Sunrise game drive in the Serengeti and stunning views from the Ngorongoro Crater rim.

  • Approximate transfer time: 3–4 hours.

  • Accommodation: Simba Public Campsite or Budget Lodge near Karatu/Crater Rim.

  • Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner (BLD).

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive

We descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater at dawn for around 5 hours game drive. This natural amphitheater is home to nearly 30,000 animals, including the rare black rhino. After a picnic lunch by the hippo pool, we ascend the crater and begin our return journey to Arusha. We typically arrive in the late afternoon for drop-offs at your hotel or the airport.

  • Daily Highlights: Spotting the rare Black Rhino and a picnic lunch surrounded by wildlife.

  • Approximate transfer time: 4 hours back to Arusha.

  • Meal plan: Breakfast & Lunch (BL).

Best Time to Visit

While the Northern Circuit offers incredible wildlife viewing year-round, the Dry Season (June to October) is the most popular. During these months, the bush thins out and animals gather around permanent water sources, making them much easier to spot. This also aligns with the dramatic Great Migration river crossings in the Serengeti.

If you prefer lush, green landscapes and vibrant birdlife, the Green Season (November to May) is a hidden gem. You may encounter occasional rain, but you’ll be rewarded with fewer crowds and the "Calving Season" in January and February, where thousands of wildebeest calves are born daily, attracting high predator action.

Logistics and Safari Tips

Starting your journey is simple. Most travelers fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK). Our shared safaris usually depart from Arusha town between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, so we recommend arriving at least one day prior to the start date.

  • Group Size: Expect a social atmosphere with 4 to 6 people per vehicle.

  • Luggage: Space is limited in safari vehicles. Please use a soft duffel bag (max 15kg) and a small daypack for your essentials. Avoid rigid suitcases.

  • Clothing: Pack light layers. It can be very cold on the Ngorongoro rim at night but hot in the Serengeti by midday.

  • Essentials: Bring a high-factor sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, insect repellent, and a power bank for your devices.

  • Health: Follow your guide’s instructions at all times, stay inside the vehicle unless in designated areas.

  • Dietary Needs: We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets with advance notice.
