This session will include an equipment check, a review of the customized itinerary, and preparation for the trek. You’ll have time to relax and enjoy dinner, resting for the adventure ahead. Overnight at a comfortable hotel.
Day 2: Moshi/Arusha to Rongai Gate to Simba Camp (2,600m/8,530 ft)
The day starts with a scenic drive to the northern side of Kilimanjaro, close to the Kenyan border, where the Rongai Gate marks the starting point of your trek. The trail meanders through lush pine forests, offering a tranquil and less-crowded experience. Keep an eye out for wildlife like colobus monkeys and exotic birds. After a steady climb, you’ll arrive at Simba Camp, located in the moorlands. Dinner will be prepared by your private chef, and you’ll settle in for your first night on the mountain.
Day 3: Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp (3,450m/11,319 ft)
Today’s trek is a gradual ascent through open moorlands with breathtaking views of the Kenyan plains and Kibo Peak in the distance. The shorter trekking day allows ample time for acclimatization, rest, and enjoying the serene landscapes. Upon arrival at Second Cave Camp, your team will set up camp while you relax and enjoy a tailored meal. This acclimatization stop increases your chances of a successful summit.
Day 4: Second Cave Camp to Kikelelwa Camp (3,600m/11,810 ft)
The trail becomes steeper as you make your way to Kikelelwa Camp. Along the way, you’ll encounter unique vegetation and dramatic landscapes, including volcanic rock formations. The path rewards you with stunning vistas of the surrounding wilderness. Upon reaching Kikelelwa Camp, located in a scenic valley, you’ll have time to unwind while your chef prepares a hot, delicious dinner.
Day 5: Kikelelwa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m/14,206 ft)
Today’s hike is shorter but more challenging, as you ascend into alpine desert terrain. The air becomes thinner, but the breathtaking scenery of Mawenzi Peak makes the effort worthwhile. After arrival, you’ll enjoy an acclimatization walk and return to camp for a restful evening and a hearty meal.
Day 6: Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Hut (4,700m/15,420 ft)
Leaving Mawenzi Tarn, you’ll cross the barren "Saddle," a high-altitude desert connecting Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. The stark beauty of the landscape, combined with the sense of adventure, creates a truly memorable experience. Upon reaching Kibo Hut, you’ll rest, enjoy an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt. Your guide will review the plan for summit night and ensure you’re ready for the challenge ahead.
Day 7: Summit Night – Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341 ft) and Descent to Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,205 ft)
Your summit push begins at midnight under a starlit sky. The challenging climb involves navigating steep switchbacks and loose scree, with short breaks to catch your breath. As dawn breaks, you’ll reach Gilman’s Point (5,685m/18,652 ft), offering incredible views of the crater. From here, a final push brings you to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and capturing photos, you’ll begin the descent to Kibo Hut for a short rest. The journey continues to Horombo Hut, where you’ll enjoy a well-earned dinner and a comfortable night’s sleep.
Day 8: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate (1,900m/6,230 ft) and Departure
On your final day, you’ll trek down through lush rainforest, passing by giant ferns and colorful flowers. The descent offers a chance to reflect on your incredible journey as you reach Marangu Gate.
