6-Day Marangu Route Group Tour 2025–2026 | Kilimanjaro Climb

The 6-Day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro group tour is one of the most popular ways to climb Africa’s highest peak, combining comfort, scenery, and an improved chance of summit success. Unlike the 5-day option, this itinerary includes an extra acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, giving climbers more time to adjust to altitude and boosting the likelihood of reaching Uhuru Peak.

Nicknamed the “Coca-Cola Route”, Marangu is the only Kilimanjaro route offering hut accommodation instead of tents, making it ideal for climbers who value added comfort on the mountain. With diverse landscapes ranging from rainforest to alpine desert, and with breathtaking views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, this route offers a rewarding journey to the Roof of Africa.

In 2025–2026, Macpace Tours and Safaris invites you to join our group climbs via the Marangu Route, where affordability meets expert guidance and a strong sense of teamwork. By joining a group, you’ll share costs, encouragement, and experiences while being guided by our professional and caring mountain crew.

Detailed 6-Day Marangu Route Itinerary – Kilimanjaro Climb (2025–2026)

The Marangu Route, often called the “Coca-Cola Route”, is the only trail with hut accommodations on Kilimanjaro. The 6-day option provides an extra acclimatization day, significantly improving summit success rates compared to the shorter 5-day version. Below is a day-by-day breakdown of the adventure.

Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,860m) – Mandara Hut (2,700m)

After registration at Marangu Gate, begin trekking through the dense montane rainforest, alive with colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and colorful bird species. The trail ascends steadily, passing waterfalls and moss-covered trees before reaching Mandara Hut, where you’ll spend the night in shared wooden cabins.

  • Hiking time: 4–5 hours

  • Distance: ~8 km

Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Leave the forest behind and climb into the moorland and heather zone, where the scenery opens to sweeping views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The trail crosses small streams and grasslands, gradually ascending to Horombo Hut, the largest hut settlement on Kilimanjaro. Overnight at Horombo Hut.

  • Hiking time: 5–6 hours

  • Distance: ~11 km

Day 3: Acclimatization at Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Spend an extra day at Horombo Hut to adjust to the altitude, greatly increasing your chances of summit success. Optional acclimatization hikes include a trek to the Zebra Rocks (4,000m), known for its striped lava formations, or further up toward Mawenzi Ridge (4,400m) for spectacular views of the jagged Mawenzi peak. Return to Horombo for meals and rest.

Day 4: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut (4,700m)

Cross the vast alpine desert, an otherworldly landscape of volcanic rock and sparse vegetation. The trail traverses the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, offering dramatic contrasts between the two peaks. Arrive at Kibo Hut, where you’ll rest, prepare equipment, and have an early dinner before the summit push.

  • Hiking time: 5–6 hours

  • Distance: ~10 km

Day 5: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Summit night begins around midnight under a blanket of stars. The trail climbs steadily through switchbacks toward Gilman’s Point (5,681m) on the crater rim, then continues to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the Roof of Africa. After celebrations and photos at the summit, descend carefully back to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue to Horombo Hut for overnight recovery.

  • Hiking time: 12–14 hours

  • Distance: ~21 km

Day 6: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Return to Moshi

Descend through the moorland and rainforest zones, retracing your steps back to Marangu Gate (1,860m). At the gate, climbers are awarded their Kilimanjaro summit certificate. From here, a vehicle will transfer you back to Moshi for a hot shower, rest, and celebration.

  • Hiking time: 5–6 hours

  • Distance: ~18 km
